No one doubts that attack drones will become full-fledged participants in future military conflicts - and the first flight of the Kratos XQ-58A Valkyrie jet UAV, which took place on March 5 at the UMA training ground in Arizona, is another confirmation of this.
It is a joint project between Kratos Unmanned Aerial Systems and the US Air Force Research Laboratory. Its goal is to create an inexpensive, efficient, long-range unmanned aerial vehicle. In the future, such drones will perform the function of escorting F-22 and F-35 fighters, striking ground targets and conducting reconnaissance.
Valkyrie has a V-shaped tail, its length is 9 m, wingspan is 6, 7 m, maximum speed is 1050 km / h, ceiling is 13 750 m, range is 3950 km. The drone can be equipped with eight types of weapons with a total weight of 272 kg, including various small-diameter bombs.
Four more test flights are planned to evaluate its aerodynamic characteristics and the efficiency of the on-board systems.
