The well-known American company Lockheed Martin, which specializes in aircraft and aerospace engineering, is preparing a new unique bomber. This was announced by the official representatives of the company.
Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works division is currently developing a hypersonic strike bomber named SR-72 Blackbird, according to Gizmag. It will be twice as fast as its predecessor - the legendary SR-71 Blackbird, developed during the Cold War in the 60s.
The SR-72 Blackbird will be powered by a unique twin-engine, specially designed hypersonic engine. The cruising speed of the aircraft, according to the developers, will be Mach 6.
True, the SR-72 Blackbird hypersonic bomber will not appear soon. Its presentation will take place no earlier than 2018. And only by 2030 can it enter service with the US Air Force.
